Taratahi's, Rural Chainsaw Skills one-day workshop is ideal for those who wish to refine or refresh their chainsaw handling skills

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • The five faults when a chainsaw should not be used.
  • Stripping a chainsaw to check bar and chain condition and reassembling afterwards.
  • Sharpening the chain.
  • Site checks before using a chainsaw, reiterating the importance of health and safety awareness.
  • Compression and tension woods and how these contribute to kick-back.
  • Techniques when cutting compression and tension woods, including the value of using wedges and compression woods.
  • Completing up and down cuts safely on compression and tension woods.
  • Individual feedback on cutting techniques and safety as participants are working.
  • Techniques and practice of bore cuts.

PPE gear and chainsaws will be provided.  

Entry criteria for the workshop : You must be 16 years of age or older, must be physically capable of handling a chainsaw and have completed Taratahi's Introduction to Chainsaws workshop.

Teas and coffees provided, please bring your own lunch.
