This diploma is available full-time and is ideal for students who want to further their knowledge and agriculture career. This programme offers a pathway to either degree level study or management opportunities. In addition, it allows students to take advantage of new technological developments and farming ventures.

The diploma in agriculture has eight papers that are designed to provide students with knowledge and appreciation of pasture and crop production and management; animal production, health and management; soil management; farm engineering and mechanisation; financial; business and marketing management; communication skills and personnel management. This is done through an integration of practical training with theoretical knowledge, and presentation of reports based on farm operations.

You are qualified for the admission to the Massey University Diploma in Agriculture programme if you have:

•    met the NCEA Level 3 university entrance standard, the specifications of which are on the Massey University website; or
•    successfully completed a National Certificate in Agriculture Level 4; or
•    successfully completed a Massey University Foundation Certificate in Agriculture at Taratahi*
•    a minimum of 12 months’ farm practical experience 
•    an IELTS test score of 5.5 with a band score no lower than 5

Applicants must be 20 years or older. 


At the conclusion of the Diploma, students are well placed to contribute positively to land-based employment or to proceed to study at Bachelor’s level. There is also the potential to cross credit to other Massey qualifications.
