Taratahi's, Introduction to Chainsaws one-day rural skills workshop is ideal for those completely new to handling chainsaws.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Parts of a chainsaw and what they do
  • Safety features on a chainsaw
  • Checking the chainsaw before starting to make sure it is in sound condition to use.
  • What a sharp chain looks like, so you know when it needs re-sharpening.
  • Safety gear to wear and the required specifications when using a chainsaw.
  • Transporting and mixing fuel, safe zones when refueling.
  • Correct holding position and stance
  • Cold and warm start-up techniques
  • Basic up and down cuts
  • Practice cutting up firewood or a fallen tree

PPE gear and chainsaws will be provided.  

Entry criteria for the workshop : You must be 16 years of age or older and must be physically capable of handling a chainsaw.

Teas and coffees provided, please bring your own lunch.
