Taratahi's, Health and Safety in Rural Workplaces half-day rural skills workshop is ideal for those want to increase their knowledge in the 2015 Health and Safety at Work Act.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

WHAT THE ACT SAYS:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act (2015) focus of identifying and minimising risk; the responsibility of farmers to inform anyone coming onto the property of risks; and increased responsibility on those people keeping themselves safe once they have been informed.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO:

  • Identify hazards, assessing the risk they pose, and taking actions to eliminate or minimise.
  • Farm walk identifying hazards, discussing their risk, and how this can be reduced.
  • Maintaining a Hazard Register.
  • Advising staff/contractors/visitors of hazards using a Health and Safety Induction and possibly a map of farm hazards.
  • Checking and maintaining equipment and vehicles so they are safe to use, keeping a record of this in a Maintenance Register.
  • Ensure people are trained to use equipment before they do so
  • Notifiable Accident and Incident reporting to Worksafe.
  • Using Safer Farms/Worksafe website of information, advice helpline, and visits for guidance.

Entry criteria for the workshop : You must be 16 years of age or older.
