This programme is a combination of the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Farming Systems) and the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Vehicles, Machinery and Infrastructure). It is designed for people wanting a career in farming.
This programme will give students the knowledge and skills to operate vehicles, machinery and equipment safely and effectively; move, handle, treat, feed and perform routine husbandry practices of livestock; an understanding of pasture-based livestock feeding and how this is managed to meet animal needs; and an understanding of how sustainable practices and technology can be used on-farm.
ENTRY CRITERIA
- Students must be aged 16 or over
- Students are selected on their expressed interest in farming, a willingness to meet the attendance and academic requirements of the programme, having literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to complete the programme, and commitment to complete the on-farm component
- International applicants who come from non-English speaking backgrounds require IELTS score of 5 with no band lower than 5 or an equivalent English proficiency outcome as outlined in the NZQF related Rule 18.
PATHWAYS
Graduates may wish to progress onto higher level study such as Level 4 Dairy Farming, the Diploma in Agriculture Level 5 or gain entry level positions on diary farms.
