This programme is a combination of the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Farming Systems) and the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Vehicles, Machinery and Infrastructure).

Dairy Farming and Equipment Level 3 is designed for people wanting a career in farming.

This programme will give students the knowledge and skills to operate vehicles, machinery and equipment safely and effectively; move, handle, treat, feed and perform routine husbandry practices of livestock; an understanding of pasture-based livestock feeding and how this is managed to meet animal needs; and an understanding of how sustainable practices and technology can be used on-farm.

Students must be:

  • Aged 16 years or over. 
  • Hold or working towards a learners', restricted or full driver's licence.
  • Physically able and strong enough to work safely around livestock and use machinery.
  • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy to manage the demands of the programme.

International students must have sufficient English language skills, confirmed by a formal assessment - please see page 6 of our prospectus for more information.

Students are selected on their expressed interest in dairy farming and a willingness to meet the attendance and academic requirements of the programme.


Graduates may wish to progress onto higher level study such as Level 4 Dairy Farming, the Diploma in Agriculture Level 5 or gain entry level positions on diary farms.
