Taratahi's, Basic Fencing one-day rural skills workshop is ideal for those wanting to gain the skills for building or repairing small block fencing.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • What are the hazards when repairing fences, and how to minimise risk including safety gear..
  • The range of basic fencing hand tools, when and how to use them.
  • Running out a wire using a spinning jenny.
  • Termination and figure of eight joining knots.
  • Using crimps to join wire.
  • Using permanent wire strainers, including where to install them and how to use the handle correctly.
  • Practice replacing a broken post and reattach wires.
  • Battening a fence and straightening battens.

PPE gear and fencing gear will be provided.  Please ensure you wear sturdy footwear.

Entry criteria for the workshop : You must be 16 years of age or older and must be physically capable of handling the equipment involved in fencing.

Teas and coffees provided, please bring your own lunch.
