International Students

Most international students will be interested in our one year Certificate in Agriculture, a practically focused 40 week course which has national recognition.

Our Education Manager is responsible for all international students and meets weekly with them.

 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES

  1. Complete the application form at the back of the prospectus. You can request the prospectus by emailing us or downloading it from this website.
  2. Send the completed application form by air-mail with the appropriate verified documentation and photograph.
  3. Your application will be assessed and if successful, you will be offered a place. If you are unsuccessful you will be notified.
  4. You should accept the offer in writing and send the course fees.
  5. You will be sent a receipt for your fees, an assurance that accommodation (if required) will be arranged and information necessary for you to obtain a Student Visa.
  6. International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit you may have to pay the full cost of that treatment. For further information visit the New Zealand Ministry of Health website at www.moh.govt.nz The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may be liable for all other medical and related costs. Students must provide evidence of appropriate and current medical and travel insurance. This insurance must cover the full length of time spent in New Zealand. An overseas Insurance policy will only be accepted if it is accompanied with an English translation. Taratahi will keep a record of the Insurance Policy number and the type of cover provided.   7. Apply for your visa. Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service and can be viewed at www.immigration.govt.nz If your course of study is less than three months, a visitor's visa may be sufficient.
  8. Copies of student visa and passport must be presented on arrival at the Taratahi.

Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at www.minedu.govt.nz

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All international students will be required to demonstrate an acceptable level of both spoken and written English ability and have acceptable literacy and numeracy skills. Sufficient qualifications and /or interview over telephone may be required to ensure this. As a guideline the ability to write and speak English at a level of IELTS of 5.5 is acceptable.

All international students must also be a minimum of 18 years of age.
