Scholarships

 

 

The information below is designed to help you identify some of the many scholarship opportunities that are available to help towards funding your fees and/or accommodation whilst at Taratahi.

The list highlights a number of scholarships in alphabetical order, some of which have closing dates before the course starts. There are many other scholarships available, some of which may only be specific to your region so its a good idea to check to see what is available locally.  Please contact Taratahi from August onwards each year to have the forms sent out.

The following scholarships require applications to be submitted before starting at Taratahi*.  Scroll down for scholarships to apply to whilst you are studying.

* These dates are fixed each year so if you are starting your course with Taratahi in our July intake, you will apply for these scholarships during your time with us.

 

Ballance/Taratahi Scholarship

Must be enrolled in and attending the Taratahi Certificate in Agriculture course and returning for the National Certificate in Agriculture Level 4.

Application forms available from Taratahi. Applications close Friday 7 October 2011

 

Edmond Sanderson Jeff Farm Scholarships - Salvation Army

Awarded annually to students enrolling at Taratahi. Up to 20 scholarships are awarded. Priority will be given to those who need assistance on account of their financial situation, their existing environment or their state of health. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications close 4 November 2011.  Interviews will be held by the Salvation Army on November 28 2011

 

Elsie and Laura Lehmann Trust

Awards scholarships for students who attended school or live (or once lived) in or close to the Borough of Stratford. Applications are to be made in the form of a letter outlining personal details and course to be followed. Application should be sent to: Trustees of the Elsie and Laura Lehmann Trust, PO Box 82, Stratford.

Applications close end of October.

 

Harwood Farm Trust Scholarship

Preference given to students from east coast of the North Island. Application forms available from Taratahi from mid October 2011.

Applications close 25 November 2011.

 

Stihl Shop Scholarship

No applications required.  Given to a student who shows good technical ability.  Selection criteria will include the student’s attitude, improvement over the first 6 months of their course, ability and credit completion.

Awarded after 6 months of study (for a January intake student this will be in July, for a July student this will be at Graduation in December)

 

 

JE Prestidge Trust Scholarship

Awards scholarships for students who have attended at some stage during their secondary schooling: Patea, Hawera, Opunake, Okato, Inglewood or Stratford High Schools or St Mary's Diocesan School.

Longview/Taratahi Scholarship

Students must be enrolled in the Taratahi Certificate in Agriculture with the intention of studying the National Certificate in Agriculture Level 4.

Applications close on 28 October 2011.

 

Meridian Energy/Taratahi Scholarship

 

Students must be enrolled in the Taratahi Certificate in Agriculture. 

Applications close on 28 October 2011.

 

Peter Laing Memorial Trust

Awards scholarships to residents or those with strong links to the Wairarapa. Application forms from Taratahi around mid October.

Applications close 18 November 2011 of each year.

 

PGG Wrightson/Taratahi Scholarship - second year

 

Students must be enrolled in the Taratahi Certificate in Agriculture with the intention of studying the National Certificate in Agriculture Level 4.

Applications close at the beginning of October (date to be confirmed).

 

Putaruru Veterinary Club Education Trust

Applicants must have resided for at least five years in Putaruru, Tirau, Tokoroa, Mangakino, Whakamaru, Tirohanga, Waihaha and Atiamuri. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications are accepted quarterly and close on: 30 June, 31December.

 

Richard Mills-Taratahi Scholarship

Awards a scholarship to Taratahi students wanting to continue their agricultural studies either at Taratahi (second year programme), Massey University or other tertiary agricultural training organisation.

Applications must be made no later than 7 October 2011.

 

Robert Gibson Methodist Trust Board

Preference given to students whose parents are either Methodist or Presbyterian. Application forms are available online at http://www.methodist.org.nz/ or from Taratahi.

Applications close 20 November 2011.

 

Rotary Club of South Wairarapa

Awards a bursary to residents of the South Wairarapa Rotary District. Application forms from Taratahi. 

Applications to be made to Rotary by mid November 2012 (date to be confirmed).

 

Rural Women New Zealand

Various bursaries are available. See http://www.ruralwomen.org/ for more information.

 

The Ann Sinclair Trust

Awards scholarships to students from the lower half of the North Island. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications must be made no later than 31 October 2011.

 

Wairarapa Rural Women New Zealand

Awards scholarships for students who live in the Wairarapa.

Applications must be made no later than 7 October 2011.

 

Westpac Scholarship - second year

 

Students must be enrolled in the Taratahi Certificate in Agriculture with the intention of studying the National Certificate in Agriculture level 4.

Applications must be made no later than mid October 2012 (date to be confirmed).

 

The following require applications to be submitted during or at the end of study (depending on whether you start in January or July)

Carterton District Council

Awards scholarships for students who live in the Wairarapa and who successfully complete the Taratahi Certificate in Agriculture. Awarded at graduation.

 

 

DairyNZ

 

There are four scholarships available - two in our January intake, one in our July intake and one for a student studying at Level 4. The student must be available for associated promotional activity and be committed to work in the dairy industry.

Applications are available from Taratahi. Application close at the end of February for the January intake scholarships.  The mid-year and Level 4 scholarship applications must be completed and handed into the office by beginning of October (date to be confirmed)

 

Doris Elizabeth Swadling Trust

Preference given to students from the Taranaki region. Please contact Public Trust in New Plymouth for application forms..

Applications close mid-January.

 

Federated Farmers (Wairarapa) Scholarship

Awards scholarships for students who live in the Wairarapa region. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications close 28 February.

 

Young Country/Fertco Tertiary Study Scholarship - NEW FOR 2012

Young Country and Fertco have banded together to set up a $2000 scholarship for students studying Agriculture or Horticulture.

FMG/Taratahi Scholarship - Level 3/first year

Awards 3 scholarships for students studying the Level 3 Taratahi Certificate in Agriculture. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications close 28 February.


FMG/Taratahi Scholarship - Level 4/second year


Awards 1 scholarship for a student studying the Level 4 National Certificate in Agriculture. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications close 28 February.

 

Janine Young Memorial Award

Awards scholarships for any student studying at Taratahi. Applications to be made directly to the Trust. For more information contact Taratahi.

Applications close 20 February.


John Daniell Memorial Trust Scholarship

Awards scholarships for students who live in the Wairarapa region and must be studying sheep and beef. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications close 28 February.


LA Alexander Trust

Awards scholarships for students who are connected to the Taranaki/Waverley area. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications close 28 February.

 

 

Landcorp Farming Limited

 

There are two scholarships available - one for Dairy and one for Sheep & Beef students.

Applications close 28 February.

 

Maori Education Foundation 

A number of different scholarships are available through the Maori Education Foundation.  They all have different criteria.  Please visit http://www.maorieducation.org.nz for more information. Application forms available from Taratahi.

Applications close at the end of April.

Margaret Bashford Scholarship

Awards scholarships for students who live in 1) South Taranaki and Stratford Districts; 2) Taranaki; 3) New Zealand. Application forms available from Harris Taylor Ltd. Phone 06 278 5058.

Beef and Lamb New Zealand

 

Various criteria applies and is only for students studying the National Certificate in Agriculture Level 4 (Sheep & Beef option).

Applications close 28 February.

 

Parininihi Ki Waitotara Trust

Supporting educational and cultural purposes of Taranaki Maori.

E tautoko ana i nga mahi matauranga me nga mahi Maori o nga uri whakaheke a nga iwi o Taranaki.

Applications close in March and September.
