STAR AND GATEWAY PROGRAMMES

National Certificate in Agriculture (Introductory Skills) Level 2
Worth 46 credits – Run over 4 courses

Process:

Students enroll/commit to completing the full qualification. This qualification could be obtained in one year if the student completes all the necessary components outlined below.

There is no extramural work to be completed – just a compulsory requirement of completing a 30 day work diary.

Students attend four x three day practical courses, run in consecutive order.

All courses are three days duration and students must be 15 years or over to attend. There are four courses per year.

Fees: $250.00 per student / per course.

Schools can purchase the following unit standards depending on a student’s individual interest.

Remember that these unit standards can later cross credit towards national certificates in agriculture and even our prestigious “Taratahi” certificate.

Units can be purchased for $45.00 each, including GST. Cost quoted can be subject to change.

Practical Skill Courses – Pick and Choose

Students can elect to enroll in one-off practical courses listed below. Upon successful completion a student will receive a Taratahi practical certificate in the relevant skill.

All courses are three days duration. Students must be 15yrs or over to attend.

Course cost: $250.00 per student / per course each, including GST.

Note:

Farm hazards

Students will be able to identify and control hazards on-farm and gain knowledge of how to work safely in the workplace. It is recommended that students also attend a First Aid course.

Stock handling

Students will be able to demonstrate good stockmanship skills and have an awareness of health and welfare needs for stock. We will also introduce knowledge of stock feeding requirements, which will be developed further in pasture management skills.

Water supply and pastures

Students will gain a greater understanding of pasture management and learn skills relating to basic water supply, including irrigation.

Farm Vehicles

Students will learn legal requirements and safe operating skills for both ATV and tractors.

Fencing

Students will gain basic fencing skills.
