Horticulture

These courses are self-paced distance programmes delivered on-line, with practical work-based components. There are no timetables to adhere to, so your study can fit around your current lifestyle. In addition, students are encouraged to attend workshops and seminars throughout the programme.

Graduates will be able to participate as competent and effective workers in the horticulture industry; e.g. parks and recreation facilities, plant nurseries, flower, fruit or vegetable growing enterprises. Interested graduates will be well prepared for further advanced horticultural study.

National Certificate in Horticulture

 

Introduction

The National Certificate in Horticulture is a Level 2 and Level 4 self-paced distance programme, delivered on-line, with practical work-based components. In addition, students are encouraged to attend the workshops and seminars offered throughout the programme.  PDF available here.

National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2)

National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4)

Programme Structure

Stage 1: Comprises of 70 NZQA approved credits. On successful completion of stage 1, the student will receive the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2). Minimum duration of 8 months.

Stage 2: Students who have already completed the requirements of stage 1, can enrol at stage 2, comprising 72 NZQA approved credits. On successful completion of this stage the student will receive the National Certificate in Horticulture, a qualification awarded at Level 4. Minimum duration of 7 months.
 Enrolments: Open.

Entry Requirements

School leavers (under 20 yrs)
A minimum of 36 credits at NCEA Level 2 across three subjects;
Including a minimum of 12 credits at NCEA Level 2 in both English and Mathematics (or equivalent)

Mature Students (20 yrs and over)
No minimum academic requirements
Note: You will be required to have basic computer skills and access to a computer and the internet, preferably a broadband connection.

What next?
