Agriculture ITO (AgITO) and Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre are collaborating in the Wairarapa to maximise agriculture training opportunities in the region. Taratahi has been working on behalf of AgITO in the Wairarapa since April. “All indications are that we can improve service and training to Wairarapa by entering into a collaborative model with Taratahi,” AgITO territory manager, George Schuler, says.
Taratahi is working with farmers, trainees and training providers to ensure the best learning support and opportunities are delivered in the region. “Taratahi’s role is to organise training, recruit trainees and modern apprentices and work with employers,” George says. “Training is still being delivered in the region by organisations such as AgricultureNZ, AsureQuality, the Open Polytechnic and in some cases by Taratahi’s Wairarapa campus in Masterton.”
Glen Hart, rural training coordinator for Taratahi, is representing AgITO in the field in Wairarapa and northern Wellington. Glen is supported by rural training administrator, Sarah Vallance, in their Masterton office.
“Taratahi will focus on giving trainees a strong view of their potential future by connecting them to the right training with the correct level of support. This will ensure that trainees get the qualifications and knowledge that benefits them and their employer” says Kim Holden, Taratahi’s regional delivery manager.
“AgITO and Taratahi are committed to delivering a high level of service to the Wairarapa,” George says. “Whilst Taratahi is the training facilitator in Wairarapa, AgITO is working closely with them and continues to enjoy contact with local trainees and employers at events such as the AgITO AgriAwards. The AgITO Regional Committee led by Suzanne Butcher continues to operate within the Wairarapa region.”
